XCF Thumbnail/Preview Image
Is there no way to have Gimp create a thumbnail or preview image of XCF files?

Using Windows Vista, & Gimp 2.6.11.

Row after of Wilber, cute as the little guy is, is less than useful.

RE: XCF Thumbnail/Preview Image
It's not Gimp... it's Windows that doesn't know how to handle XCF files (and several other formats...). There may be add-ons to the file explorer that allows it to display thumbnails for XCF but they aren't part of Gimp.

I've found that one (page is partly in Russian) that some people I know recommend:

The download links are in the first post:

Thanx, I'll keep digging. Not enough English there for my poor brain to make head nor tails.

Does Windows have this same issue with PSD files?

Likely... In any case this wouldn't be a good reason to save your files as PSD instead of XCF.

Alternatively you can use more image-oriented explorers/managers. XnView is free and will display thumbnails for XCF files.

RE: XCF Thumbnail/Preview Image
If I was to write (which I can't) the add-in to Windows (which I won't) and send it to Microsoft for free (which I'd never) to display a thumbnail of the .xcf files found in a folder, I wonder:

"Just what would I display?"

I mean to say, my .xcf files contain dozens of layers, and what the _project_ "looks like" depends (intentionally) on what layers are turned on.

That's one of the very cool things about the GIMP: that you can "File->Save A Copy" for a number of variations very quickly from the same file. (Just backspace over .xcf and type .png or .jpg or .bmp or ... well, maybe not '...' ...)

(All of those images show up as thumnails too.)

Regards,
gramp

(Oh, about the Russian page, use one of those free translator services; like google.)
