Smile Wrong colors...
Hello Gimp-ers Smile
First of all I want to thank for all the developers for their efforts to bring the Gimp project so far Smile I just heard of it and when I heard it is freeware and open source I installed it asap. However, I do confront with a problem when I open an image. It is visibly opened at a lower quality as you can see in this image.

Look carefully at the boundary between the blue and yellow fields. There is a color mismatch Sad

Can anybody help?

What you how on the Gimp side looks like an image that received some sharpening but Gimp won't apply sharpening on images it loads.

But we cannot give any advice without the original image, your Gimp version, and the software you used to check the picture. Also make sure that you are comparing the very same file, some sites (in particular social networks) can do untoward things to the pictures without telling you (recompressing, format change, etc...).

Hello, thanks for answer..
I opened the image in windows preinstalled image viewer and also in photoshop and the quality is like it is shown in the left image.... but the same image opened in Gimp is shown like in the right.
I am not blaming nor condemning anyone, I do respect the hard work behind Gimp but I thought maybe I miss something ... could it be because I open the image with drag n drop? hmm
I shall try opening from File-open when I get home.

Oh and I use Gimp 2.8 in windows 7 64 bit

Any other suggestions are welcome?

RE: Wrong colors...
hmmm...

when you opened the image in Gimp, did it prompt you about a color profile? (whether you want to convert or keep a color profile?)

Is the image zoomed to 100% or more?

RE: Wrong colors...
Ok I managed to arrive home
Here is the image, can you please open it in Gimp and tell me if there is a lower quality there than previewed in another application?

Please zoom in to see what I'm referring to.

Thanks

RE: Wrong colors...
I can duplicate that problem. Here a comparison PS7 (yeah, I know, using PS Undecided ) on the left and gimp on the right. (PCLOS/Gimp 2.8.10/PS7 running in WINE) 300% zoom

screenshot http://i.imgur.com/bgCTFpg.png

Not confined to Gimp, the same shows up if I view in XnViewMP.

However if I resave the jpeg in PS7 using the default settings, then the image shows in Gimp as desired. This resave attached in case it is just me/my installation.

Comparing the properties apart from the obvious no colour profile / Adobe RGB (1998)

then I begin to suspect the chroma sub-sampling or lack-of in the original
see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroma_subsampling

but I could well be wrong, only a dumb civil engineer.

edit: might not be chroma, still looking at the original, one strange thing about it, it does not report a dpi value.
