Worm hole
Hi all, I've come up with a design for a book cover but I'm not sure that the worm hole connecting the planets together looks right. I drew a straight line and used the motion blur filter on it.

Picture 1 shows the scene without the wormhole, and 2 has it included. If anyone knows of a better way to draw this here old tunnel in space then I'd be grateful for the tips.

I'll be adding some cartoon style UFOs to the bottom left corner of the cover, they will be on a vector to attack the blue planet.

Cheers.

Edit: Once I've worked out how to insert images into this post they'll be something for you good folks to look at. Doh.

RE: Worm hole
Your links don't work. You have to keep the attachments as attachments, even if you insert them in the post.

RE: Worm hole
Cheers ofnuts. I was trying to get the pictures to show in the posts like I've seen other people do.
Can't figure that one out yet though. Forums, they're fiendish things.

RE: Worm hole
At first I didn't notice the doors. Then I noticed them, and later i figured out they were doors. I think they aren't completely necessary.

The global rendering of the wormhole isn't too shabby (good level of light and transparency), the light spots at the ends have merit. However I personally believe the wormhole shouldn't be straight (if only to not be confused with some light ray). If it looked like an irregular spring (like the umbilical cord of an astronaut), its link status would be more obvious. If it ends on the dark sides of the planets, it can make a nice light patch.

The flare effect at the top left isn't natural. My experience with real flare in photographs is that the flare is always from the bright spot to the center of the picture (it can go beyond, but remains on that axis). There is no outward flare.

RE: Worm hole
Thanks for your comments.

The doors are there as a connection to the book's title, but in all honesty they have no connection to the stories in the book though there is a wormhole link between two worlds. I could scrap the doors, not sure yet though.

I'll do another version of the cover and sort out the lens flare problem. I'm new to this stuff so mistakes like that are going to be easy for me to make. As to making the wormhole look like a spring of some kind, I like it. Just got to work out how to do it now. I'm sure if I play around with the filters I'll find a way.

Not had any luck with building a ufo yet. I've come up with a few designs but they look a bit ropey. If anyone knows of a way other than using clip art I'd be grateful for the tip.

I'll post an updated version soon as it's done.

RE: Worm hole
A very long time later.

Here's what I think is the finished version. Never could get a spiral effect for the wormhole, I came up with a few versions of a spiral but they all look...well, rubbish. I quite like the little UFOs though.

All comments gratefully received. Cheers

I know, you're right. I never could find a way to make one that looked good at a small scale. Still, this cover's a thousand times better than the last one thanks to Gimp. So that's cool.
