Window focus in new version of gimp
I just reformatted my laptop, reinstalled OS 10.4.11, and redownloaded GIMP, and the apparently newer version doesn't work as well as the old one. Specifically, switching window focus requires clicking on the tool/window twice instead of just once as before. Can anybody let me know if there's a way to

- change the setting for this

- download an older version of GIMP for OS X (probably from 2010 or 2009, I'm guessing 2.4 or 2.5?)

and/or
- figure out what version I was using from a saved .xcf file?

Thanks for any help.

I assume you mean OSX? Sorry I can't help much for that. The person who did the OSX build can certainly help...

To find the version you were running before, check the parent directory of your Gimp profile: Edit/Preferences and then the "Folders" tab. Most categories have two folders, one of them being writable, and all these writable folders have the same parent by default, which is your Gimp profile.

If you were already running 2.6 it will be reusing the same directory (.gimp-2.6) (so you have already recovered your additional brushes/patterns/gradients/scrpts/plugins). If you were using 2.4, you'll find a .gimp-2.4 sitting next to your new .gimp-2.6. You can move your old stuff from it, after checking that scripts and plugins still work in 2.6. If OSX is tue to its Unix origins, the leading dot in the directory name makes them "hidden" by default, you may have to override this in your file explorer.

Thanks, and yeah I did mean OS X. Not sure checking the directory would help though, I erased the HD and reinstalled everything. Maybe I'll email them, I could've sworn there was a setting somewhere for the window focus thing.

RE: Window focus in new version of gimp
ok, I figured it out. First of all, this is the version of GIMP I was using:
http://darwingimp.sourceforge.net/download.html

However, the actual problem was a setting for X11 that you can change by opening the Terminal application (in utilities) and pasting in the following:

defaults write com.apple.x11 wm_click_through -bool true

Found that info here:
http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/os-x-op...r-x11.html

So I'm guessing the new version of GIMP will work fine now, but I've got everything working the way it was before now. Sweet.

No problem. By the way, on newer versions of OS X (doing a lot of switching around right now), the setting is in X11 Preferences -> Windows, you don't have to use Terminal at all.
