Video Will a saved gimp image show on thumbnails?
Hi

I have created a gimp image (the word "Welcome") and it has been saved in my pictures. Usually you should be able to click thumnails and all of your images will appear but I only get the GIMP logo.

In the long run I am trying to add this image to wordpress. I can upload the image onto my website but it only shows the title which is underlined once clicked it will then open the image. I thought that it may have been connected to the fact that I couldn't see a preview of the image in microsoft office picture manager.

I have tried uploading things that are not in GIMP and they've worked fine so that why I'm thinking that I've done something wrong on GIMP rather than there being a problem with wordpress.

Thanks for your help

RE: Will a saved gimp image show on thumbnails?
What is the format of the saved file? If you get the Gimp logo on it, it may mean it as been saved in the Gimp native format (xcf). You have to use "save as" and specify an extension usable for the web (JPG, PNG, GIF).

Recommendations:

1) it's a good habit to keep the image in the native Gimp format, and to "export" it in an universal format only when needed. This allows rework later without any loss (layers, selections, ...)

2) For most purposes (anything but large size photographs) the PNG format is the best. It's as widely supported as JPG and GIF, and:
- it's lossless and without artifacts, and on most non-photographic graphics it won't be bigger than JPEG. This makes it ideal for anything with text (banners, buttons...)
- it supports 16 million colors (only 256 in GIF)
- it supports progressive transparency (aka alpha channel) (none in JPG, only on/off in GIF)
