White page
I edited a picture that involved a layer, it asked me to save it as a jpeg picture which I did. Now I cannot find the picture I edited or the original picture. It comes up as a white page.
What did I do wrong and what can be done to revert it.

No, Gimp didn't ask you to save it as Jpeg Smile

When you say you cannot find it, do you mean you can't find the file or that file is empty (or only contains white)? "File/Open recent" has a list of all the files you handled recently (opened or saved), if you don't remember where you put it.

When you save as JPEG or another format that doesn't support layers (PNG, GIF...) what you save is what you see (ie, it flattens the picture, using only the layers that are visible at that time (what you see is what you save).

If you saved the file under the original name as a JPEG, then there is little you can do to recover it, unless you have backups. If you are lucky, an unerase utility (if you have not worked too much on that PC since the mishap) may (big conditional here) recover th previous version, since saving is usually done using a "new" file (ie, the original file contents are not obliterated on the disk, the new version is saved under a temp name, and if everything went well, the original is erased and the new version is renamed).

On the whole when you edit files with Gimp, save them as XCF, and do a "save as" JPG/PNG/GIF when you need them in a "final" format.
