Whats the Deal with Earth...
And why does mine have a crack in it?

1. Take a square image (making it perfectly square is the key and where I lack the skill to know how)
2. Animations>Spinning Globe
3. Animations>Playback

RE: Whats the Deal with Earth...
To make the image perfectly square:
1) either scale the canvas (Image/Scale image), "unlink" Height/width and force the same value in each
2) Crop the image (in the Crop tool, you can enforce "fixed size" (enter for instance "400x400") or fixed ratio (enter "1:1"))

I dont see the first option with scale to "unlink" the height and width.

And my image is already 300x300 Fixed: Aspect ratio. I still have this line..

RE: Whats the Deal with Earth...
Actually I just used the crop tool the way you said and instead of keeping it at 300x300, I just made it a bit smaller on all sides and no more line.

RE: Whats the Deal with Earth...
Yes, if you look at your original image closely (use 8x zoom) you'll find it has a clear blue one-pixel vertical line along the left side, and a darker, but still visible, line along the right side. This is what shows up as a crack.

RE: Whats the Deal with Earth...
Ofnuts, the cracked line is resolved, but can you see what is wrong now with my image?

Not sure if you can see it as well on this forum. The pixalation is terrible. How is this sharpened up? I tried 'Color to Alpha' as with a transparent background.... isn't they way.

Not sure if this one is necessary. It is the image before spinning globe. Please let me know if you need the xcf before the merging.

RE: Whats the Deal with Earth...
You original is low-res, and your addition is pixelated. When converting to GIF, make sure your are using the max number of colors (256) and not the default (64)

RE: Whats the Deal with Earth...
O OK, I'll give that a try. I was also having an issue with all my text looking pixalated. Idk what is is right now. When I get extra time this week I'll write a thread or make a search for it.

New question: is it possible to make the orange cable cuff appear to be 3D from the globe?

IMHO it's because you are getting short of colors to for the antialiasing. Also, given the size of your globe, you are using very small fonts.

Yes, but you are going to spend the next couple of years on that (have to do it frame by frame, pixel by pixel). But hmmm. Maybe you can just cop out and add a thin layer (1-2px) of orange on the "horizon", our eyes and the movement will do the rest. Still frame by frame, but likely a lot faster. I suggest making a border selection that circles the globe over said pair of pixels, so painting gets very fast.

RE: Whats the Deal with Earth...
I see, well looks like a project I can handle over the next week or so.

The pixalation text I was referring to was not the text in this picture, but I will make a thread for that. I am having alot of pixalation in all my pictures. Also I just got a 23" monitor so it actually shows up alot clearer on it. Even the Ofnuts sgnature, and your avatar have white edges, and a few other things I can see now. Did you 'Color to Alpha' on your transparency?

The whole world is pixalated though!
