Weird Color Mottling After Export
Greetings! I'm a newb. I've been using GIMP for about a year. I searched the forum for solutions to my issue, but I may not know the correct terminology to search effectively - thanks in advance for patience with my newbiness. Smile

Whenever I export an image (I tend to export to either jpg or png), the resulting image always has weird mottling in the text and in any bucket-filled shapes.

Here's a png I just threw together.

Here's what it looks like after I upload it to FaceBook, just for the sake of example.

Can anyone please tell me how to create images that won't have that goofy mottling of the color in the text? I appreciate your time and consideration - truly I thank you!

RE: Weird Color Mottling After Export
you get that because Facebook compresses your image

adding noise or using a gradient can help reducing the effect

Jpeg artifacts. The image has been compressed to death by facebook.

The example downloads to a jpg size 19,453B To get that size in Gimp the quality setting will be between 50 (21,232B) and 30 (17,821B). Open it and there is also strange color profile used.

Blame it all on Facebook

Als0, there is a feature on "the book", when your uploading your picture something like "HQ version(may be slower)" Try that, just don't go to crazy with it (one to a couple photos per session.)

The reason they compress the photos is to save their bandwidth being a free site, the only money they make to pay for server costs are through ads & games / apps, which fluctuates.
