Watermarks
I see nothing on these pages about Watermarks. Is there a way in GIMP to embed a watermark?

IF so, could you give some specific info on doing this?

OR, if there is no way to do that would a second, TOP layer, suffice for embedding something before flattening that would bar people from using photos for stock items?

Thanks!

RE: Watermarks
Hi Jay,

I usually just add a top layer, throw a brush I have with a logo on it, and drop the opacity of the layer to 10%.

RE: Watermarks
Usual solutions is either the quite transparent layer as Zephaera explained or a bump map using a black-on-white layer with your watermark on it (which is harder to remove properly than the top layer method, if the original watermark is of uniform color).

But let's be realistic, nobody has ever made any big money selling "borrowed" photos as stock photos. To be usable as stock photo (e, editable further, or printable) the picture has to be in a much bigger size (typically around 6Mpix) than what is used for display on the web (1 to 2 MPix).
