Use Console as IPython Gimp interpreter?
I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE py-fu and I LOVE ipython. It would be really nice to be able to use them together.

As I have a minimalist command line based Window Manager and I open gimp from another console, it would be great to have the option to just use the cosole I opened gimp with as the interpreter.

If no one knows of a way to configure such a setup, I would definitely be interested in an ipython interpreter plugin for inside of gimp. Some command line option would definitely be an ideal solution, and I'll probably throw out a feature request if nothing like this exists.

Thanks a lot in advance! Smile

You can try to tweak /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/interpreters/pygimp.interp

Any idea how?

I tried to change:
Code:
python=/usr/bin/python2.7
/usr/bin/python=/usr/bin/python2.7
:Python:E::py::python:

To:
Code:
python=/usr/bin/ipython2.7
/usr/bin/ipython=/usr/bin/ipython2.7
:Python:E::py::python:

But it tells me that the plugin /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/python-console.py messes up. Which is strange, as I do not find any references to 'pygimp.interp' within the file...

I would have tried:

Code:
python=/usr/bin/ipython
/usr/bin/python=/usr/bin/ipython
:Python:E::py::python:

Same error:
Plug-in crashed: "python-console.py"
(/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/python-console.py)

The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.

The console spits out:
[TerminalIPythonApp] Bad config encountered during initialization:
[TerminalIPythonApp] Unrecognized flag: '-gimp'

Well, the Windows version of that file is:
Code:
python=..\Python\pythonw.exe
/usr/bin/python=..\Python\pythonw.exe
:Python:E::py::python:
