Okay, first step is take a deep breath and relax! Then remember... we're supposed to be having fun with this stuff! Big Grin

My first thought is that your file might be too big. Most forums like this one have limits on what size files you can attach. I'm not sure what the limits on here are, but I sent Einherjar a PM asking him. What size is the file you're trying to attach? Both pixel dimensions (height x width) and kilobytes (megabytes?). Also, what type of file is it (jpg, xcf, zip)?

file size = 590kb
dimensions = 2048x1536

Based on what I've seen from other forums, that seems rather large. I haven't heard back from Einherjar yet so I don't know for sure though. You could wait until we know for sure, or you could try making it smaller and then see if it posts or not.

I'm assuming this is for the "blurry image" thread in the other forum. Ofnuts suggested 1200 x 900 as being sufficient, so you could try cropping out a representative section that size. Saving it as a .png would be good, or if you have to use .jpg use as little compression as possible since that can change the "blurriness" of the image all by itself.

Another alternative would be to upload the file to a file hosting site like MediaFire or an image hosting site like ImageShack and then just posting the url pointing to your file.

Okay, thanks Willy!

@justinrpg - Rather than waiting around a week you might want to give plan B or C a try... your call.

RE: upload attachments not working
I was gonna leave him/her a PM so if he/she got on and ask him if everything was alright, but then I saw that and was like oh well I guess I'll just have to wait.
Only thing I can say is he/she should have left someone in their place to fill in.

I haven't heard back from Einherjar yet either. Sometimes life gets in the way of doing the stuff we'd rather be doing.

I do know that several people, myself included have uploaded files over the past weeks, so I know that part of the board is working. Until we hear back from Einherjar and can look deeper into what the problem might be you might want to consider uploading it to one of the free sites I mentioned earlier, then just post the link to it here (or rather, back in that other thread).

RE: upload attachments not working
Okay, I just did some testing on my own. First I created a new file that was 2048 x 1536 and filled it with a simple gradient. Saved as test.xcf it was 5,780 KB (nearly 6 MB). I uploaded it as an attachment to this message and it worked just fine. Then I made another one four times the size, 4096 x 3072 and saved it as test.jpg at 1,680 KB. It too uploaded with no trouble at all and even generated a correct thumbnail image on the post. (Obviously I've deleted these, no sense in needlessly wasting server space.)

I think its safe to say at this point that the board is working fine, and the size of your file isn't the problem either. So let's work through this step by step and see if we can't find what's going wrong. First off, you never did mention what format your file was. The assumption would be jpg, but at this point I'm not taking anything for granted Dodgy What is the file name? Any odd characters or just letters and numbers? Also, what kind of system are you using (Mac, Windows, Linux?), what version OS, and what version of Gimp do you have?

Since I'm not terribly familiar with either Mac or Linux, we'll assume for the moment that your using Windows (as I am) and go from there. Obviously we can assume you know how to make a post, so we've got that for. When you are in the Post A New Reply window (or Post A New Thread if thats what you're doing), below the text editing area there should be a section labeled Attachments. Next to where it says New Attachment there is a button labeled Choose File (to the right of this button it should say "No file chosen"). Click that button. That should open a window that lets you browse your hard drive and choose the file you want to upload. Once you select your file, click on Open. Next to the Choose File button the text "No file chosen" should now say whatever the name of your file is. Now, on the far right hand side is a button labeled Add Attachment. Click this button. The board should now begin uploading your file. When its finished it will refresh the screen and the Attachments area will have the buttons to choose another new file, and below that it should list your uploaded file with file size. At this point you can Preview or Post your message. That should be all there is to it.

If these steps don't work, at exactly which point does it fail? What happens when it doesn't work? Is there an error message of any kind?
