Unable to save to .png
Hi, I don't know if I'm doing anything really stupid or not but this is something I do on a regular basis for my Websites but recently gimp wont save my images to .png format.

I am doing everything as I always have, alter the image then export to .png but now I am getting an error message. I have provided screen shots so you can see what I mean:

1. I upload a .jpg image to gimp (screenshot 1)
2. I give the image a transparent background (screenshot 2)
3. I select the Export As button (screenshot 3)
4. I change the .jpg to png (screenshot 4)
5. I check the required boxes in the Export box (screenshot 5)
6. I select Export again (screenshot 6)
7. I get the much hated and frustrating error message (screenshot 7)

I have tried this on many images to no avail so my Website work has stopped.

Fingers crossed you can help.

Thanks

Two possible causes:

1) something weird in you image. Create a small 10x10 image and try to save it as a PNG to your desktop.

2) some weirdness with the libpng library; This could be due to incompatible versions (even if the Gimp code has some version checking). Did you install another software that also uses libpng recently (most open-source image-related applications use it: Inkscape, Digikam,...)?

Thanks so much, I downloaded the Mavericks version and working perfectly.

RE: Unable to save to .png
Looks like the developers in GIMP should revert that to the 2.6 version. I only need to "Save as..." and type the 3 letter extension. But I am old and I like old things. I sometimes wonder who thought New Coke would be a success too. Big Grin
