Umbrella template! Urgent! Help

Hi,
I need to solve the following problem:
1) make a projection of 2d image to the umbrella
2) get the umbrella template (8 sectors) for printing

the only mention regarding this problem I found in
http://www.vendian.org/mncharity/dir3/planet_globes/
this problem is very similar to mine

Any ideas?
Would highly appreciate any help!

If you have an image like this (black frame added so that you can see what is transparent):
   
Applying "Filters/Map/Map object" and selecting "sphere" and adequate orientation, you get this:
   

Mapping the 2D object may require some pre-counter-distorsion to compensate, look at "Filters/Distorts/Curve bend"
