Ubuntu 12.04 issue
Hi,
few days ago I installed Gimp 2.8 on Ubuntu 12.04. Everything works ok, the only problem is that when I draw something and then select that with rectangle tool and then select from float (I made floating object), the rectangle is not moving smooth, and the picture in the rectangle appears 1 second after I move my mouse.

Does anybody know if this is Graphic card issue, drivers, or I missed some box for example hardware acceleration.

My Graphic card is not bad (It could run games without problem, tested it when I had Windows/now I am Linux only Smile )

Graphic card is: Ati Radeon HD 4800 series

Here is the whole story:http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1995388&highlight=gimp

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I am running Linux Ubuntu 12.04

But I'm not sure it fixes your problem.

There are some compile options that have a strong influence on performance (SSE instructions), even without a GPU.

Thanks for your answer, but if I make things like in the post you provided, then the floating object is even slower than before.

Is Gimp 2.8 for linux Gimp 2.8 RC1? Can someone tell me what does this RC1 mean (i found it on forums)
Any more solutions?

RE: Ubuntu 12.04 issue
@GreatDanton
I have both, a Gimp 2.8RC1 compiled from source on a PClinuxOS and a 2.8.0 on a LinuxMint Debian 'cobbled' together from that ppa and debian testing repos. If you need to update go for the ppa.

Both work fine and don't show the lag you experience. Both use KDE as the desktop manager (DM).

I did read sometime that the colour management settings caused a delay so check in preferences that it is turned off.

Another possibility is the 'Unity' DM. Try one of the alternatives. Pages and pages here,

there is a section about a eighth of the way through.
tinyurl for the above in case of breaks. http://tinyurl.com/bncnwbq

Special Note: If your desktop seems to be running slow, you can switch your session to Ubuntu 2D by logging out, and clicking the little gear looking icon next to where you enter in your password, and click on the gear to change your session to Ubuntu 2D instead and re-login again to save your changes.

worth a go.

RE: Ubuntu 12.04 issue
I change to Ubuntu 2D and disable Color Management. I can say it's little better than before but it's not perfect like it has to be Smile.

P.S I really like link you have provided. I have Ubuntu for 4 months now (I use it everyday) and I have still learned something new.
