Trying to make the shades of a footprint
Hello and thanks for reading,

I have been trying to use gimp to create a footprint, for use in various environments, such as sand, concrete, mud, etc. For that, I have created a footprint using the path tool, grading tool and other stuff, but It's not really good. Or, atleast, I don't think so. Here, let me show you what I have got so far:

Here's the footprint with sand as background: https://imgur.com/HWLAgdK

Here's the footprint with alpha as background (click on the image to make is visible): https://imgur.com/TEHBe3b

I want to know, is there a better way of doing this? The color grading seems a bit iffy, because if I select the part of the foot with paths for my footprint, and then use the blend tool (gradient) for the shades, some parts of the foot that are uneven (Like the inner arch) end up really dark, so I have to use the erase tool to fix it.

Is there a better way of doing this? Or is there a tutorial that does something similar?

Thank you in advance.
