Transparent background shows up white when uploaded
Hi guys,

I have a photo with a background that I erased and when I open it in Windows it looks fine, but when uploaded to a site like Facebook, the white background shows up. Any ideas?

What file format do you use? JPG? PNG? GIF? JPEG doesn't support transparency (erasing the background is really making it transparent) so you may have a white background added by default.

Hi,

I erased the background then save as PNG. It asks me to export so I do.

It should work then. But note that some sites do "doctor" the picture and do not really display the file you upload, or put it on some specific background (or, to avoid easy download, set it as a "background" picture and put fake transparent picture over it (which is the one the ignorati will download).

So try to download your picture back and compare it with the one you uploaded...

hey Ofnuts,

I just read that facebook might have problem with pngs. Anyway I could save it in a different format that permanently saves the transparency ?

GIF also supports transparency, but will only use 256 colors. OK for many purposes, except photos.
