GIMP 2.8 - Using the Ellipse Selection Tool to make Elliptical/Round pictures that can be added to any program WITHOUT displaying transparent background boxes:

*I had a heck of a time finding any help with this! Pasting any selection from one GIMP Project into another Gimp Project was no problem, but no matter what I tried, every time I pasted an elliptical or round GIMP selection into another program, it's transparent background box came with it. NOT GOOD if you were wanting to fit the round picture into an existing round template location!

***The secret was in the File Type used to Export the selection as!!! I had been using a .jpg fie type with no positive results. Exporting as a .png file type gave me the option during the exporting dialog to deselect the Save background color. This is all it took! The exported .png file could now be added to any other program, WITHOUT it's pesky background box.

1. Open or Edit source picture with GIMP.
2. Use the Ellipse Select Tool to make your selection. *Check the Fixed Aspect Ratio box to select perfect circles.
3. Image - Crop to Selection to minimize the picture size.
4. Layer - Transparency - Add Alpha Channel to prep for background removal.
5. Select - Invert to select only the background pixels.
6. Delete removes background pixels and displays the transparent background area as a checkered box.
7. File - Export to save the selection as a new file. DO NOT use Save or Save As!
8. File Type (By Extension). *See bottom left of Export Image dialog box.
9. Select PNG image.
10. Name the new .png file.
11. Export - Export.
12. De-select Save background color checkbox in Export Image as PNG dialog box.
13. Export.
14. Copy/Paste, Insert or Select your exported .png file to be placed into any program.

***Carefully read and follow ALL steps...they work!
Not to say that there isn't another method, but I couldn't find it!!***

Good Luck!
