too many thing wrong with Gimp 2.8.6
I am downgrading back to 2.8.4. there is too many thing wrong with Gimp 2.8.6... for instance the one windowed mode shows an oversized toolbox that is NOT resizable... 70% of my fonts show up as all ******* (stars) when I type, and several plug-ins wouldn't work in 2.8.6 that did in 2.8.4!! and those are just the top three these is lots of other issues as well... anybody else having issues with the 2.8.6 build??

RE: too many thing wrong with Gimp 2.8.6
What operating system are you using? 2.8.6 is the latest version so it the devs might still need time to work out all the bugs in it.

You don't *HAVE* to use one-window mode, its just there for convenience & looks kinda cool, for those that are use to PS's layout.

The only bug I've found so far in 2.8.6 was when closing a project sometimes it leaves the layers open.
To you & everyone else:
How is 2.8.4 different from 8.6? And does it have the new 2 row (fine-adjust, click) sliders?
The new sliders on tool options & layer opacity is one of my favorite improvements!

I did see on here one possible advantage 2.8.4 has over 8.6 though, the load/start up. It loads quicker because it doesn't load up a script or something that 8.6 does.

RE: too many thing wrong with Gimp 2.8.6
I have 2.8.6 running on Windows 7 64-bit and it's better than 2.8.4 in every possible way. The fix of the horrendous panning performance alone is worth upgrading for.

Personally I have found that GIMP 2.8.6 has been an improment in mac os X. Now I can actually close the program for starters!.

No, lol, please, keep this in your thread, gimp is under the open source licence. I thought they discussed it with you already.
Kickstarter is for new projects where the developer wants/needs the funding & plans on making a profit off of it. They can always donate to gimp if they want improvments sooner.

RE: too many thing wrong with Gimp 2.8.6
Back to reality (well, as real as it gets with these threads)

@moltres_rider

I seem to recall that you had the gimp single window interface set up with lots of the dialogs on the right hand side and little on the left side. see:
http://gimpforums.com/thread-change-gimp...gle-window
and
http://youtu.be/D7P_yFcGT9w

Nothing wrong with that, I used a similar arrangement once.

Moving from Gimp 2.8.4 to 2.8.6 will have inherited the settings from your local \.gimp-2.8 settings. Maybe something went wrong, only you know what is in your computer.

It is worth moving to 2.8.6 if only for the increased clipboard size of 1024x1024 pix. This will be useful for the sort of work you are interested in. So far I have not found any plugin that worked in 2.8.4 not working in 2.8.6; please give examples of the problem.

If I was having problems such as yours, I would start from scratch.
Disable .\gimp-2.8 by renaming it.
Uninstall the old Gimp, have a look to see if anything remains in the C:\Program Files\Gimp 2\ folder structure. If there is, back it up by renaming the folder.
Install the new version of Gimp.

That will start Gimp in multi-window mode. Remember that the position of the windows (left-side or right-side of the image window) does have an effect on the position of the dialogs when you go into single window mode. Tools section too wide, maybe too many dialogs under it. Go to full screen and start dragging the hot spots.

Then start moving those troublesome plugins in one at a time to check any problems.

Fonts not showing? Can't help you there. Are the problem fonts installed in the windows fonts folder or the Gimp fonts folder? Might indicate a fix.

thanks for that thread(all on one side), I had to woke up early for an art job so this made my morning! XD But I learned a little something about the side bars in the process too.

@moltres: yeah, psh he doesn't know how to copy paste urls, link fail.

Personally I like the floating window dock, I can extend my canvas and flip between windows, but maybe one day(today?) I'll really test out one-window mode on a project just for fun.
