TIFF with no colors
Hi all,

I have many many files earlier scanned using ABBYY Finereader in colors 300dpi, but now using any programs I only get the images back as black and white. If I upload to one of their online processors I get it back in colors, all images are nice and colorful.
I attach an example tiff file.

Anyone has any idea?

Thanks,
aladar

ImageMagick "identify" finds several unknown tags in the file... for OCR software color is more an impediment than useful information, so Finereader produces a B&W file and stores the text color elsewhere to restore it after OCR.

Tried it with a few applications, the image has 3 layers, a B&W indexed layer - the one you see, a RGBA layer that nothing so far will read, and a small grayscale thumbnail.

Problem with tiff is it has many-many variations so not looking good so far

I'm looking curiously at the second layer, it seems empty, but I have a feeling it is in there somehow. Just I have no idea how to get it out.

If I were to find that my scanner software couldn't produce color scans (or produces them only in a proprietary format, which is the same) I would find another one (like the one that came with the scanner).

Thanks for your response, maybe you missed that I'm trying to use GIMP, and not finereader any longer, that is why I face the problem. If I could have a solution with GIMP I'd consider donating the money I'd have to spend on firereader on GIMP. But as it seems there is no solution here, I might simply have to buy a finereader.

thanks,

RE: TIFF with no colors
Wow, thanks a lot!

I spent already a few hours on trying to get somewhere with no luck.
But my conclusion is that I need to find someone with Finereader and have him save all images in color for me, and then I can cut the pictures from those images as I need.

Thanks for the great feedback!
