RE: Themes don't work
What OS(operating system/version are you using?) if not windows.

maybe what version of gimp are you using too. On those two alone I can help look up the theme's not working. On my initial search I only found a tutorial on how to change themes.

So a few more details will help, thanks Smile

Edit: I overlooked the part about you saying the themes section was empty in preferences. I'll get back to this post with an updated 2nd short search until I get more info from you.

Ok, So on my second search BAM! I found a possible check? (DO *NOT delete the following folders, just look & see if there are the needed theme files in them.

..\GIMP-2.8\lib\gtk-2.0\2.10.0\engines (here you add the theme engines: dll's found in previous links)
and
..\GIMP-2.8\share\themes (here you need the theme settings files, get them from here or the first two links)

RE: Themes don't work
Thanks for replying. I am on windows 7 and using gimp 2.8.4

I have both folders. In the themes folder there is only Default, Emacs, MS-Windows, and Raleigh. Should there be more folders?
In engines there is libpixmap.dll and libwimp.dll.

RE: Themes don't work
Your engine folder is ok, I checked with mine, has the same files (lib...)

(Jul 16, 2013 23:23)ofnuts Wrote:  What files have you got in, say, the directory for the MS-Windows theme?

-"theme folders" with green circles
- on the left, one of the "sub-folder" is highlighted with a red rectangle.

See below picture, you should have a "gtk" file in a sub-folder of each theme folder
if your missing that, you might have to re-download or try upgrading to gimp 2.8.6.
(make sure you uninstall your old gimp first if that's the case.)

Here's a tutorial on how to change the theme in gimp 2.8, maybe your missing a step.

P.S. Thanks ofnuts for the welcome! I'm the new reinforcement troop XD
