Text on a Path ?
Hi,

I'd like to create a logo with some text in the shape of a circle or maybe a horseshoe.

What's would be the best way to do this? I've tried creating a path in the shape of a horseshoe but can't work out how to add my text to it.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Regards,

Dave.

- Create your "guide" path, make sure it's the active path.
- Start the text tool, enter the text
- Hit the "Text along path" button in the Text tool options box (under the font/color/size choices). This creates a path that you can find in the Path list.
- You can stroke that path for a text outline, or transform it into a selection and bucket-fill it.

HOWEVER, the "Text along path" starts at the origin of the path, that can be anywhere on a closed circle (and is usually at 09:00 hours), so it won't center your text you. All isn't lost however:

- If the bending path is a circle or part of a circle, you can rotate the generated path around the circle center (Rotate tool, in "Transform path" mode (right most icon in the "Transform" line).

- Otherwise, you can edit your beding path to make it start where you want. In the path editor, Cltr-click on a segment of the path to add an anchor point, then remove the part that isn't useful (Shift-Ctrl-Click the segment, then the useless anchor points). After a couple of hit and miss you should get it right.

- As last resort, PM me to try my path-along-path script (requires python support), which does the centering for you, among other things.

- Thanks. Yes that seems to work fine.

Cheers,

Dave.
