Text along path

Question Text along path
Hi all, I'm new here.
Woking with Gimp now for a few months, but I'm running into something I don't know how to achieve .
I want to create a shield, similar to the one below, but I don't know how I best deal with the text.
As you can see in the image, if I would use text along path, the text would not look close to the example, as the text would be "rotated" to much.

Does anybody of you know how I could achive the same text alignment as in the example?

If you are on Win OS there is Freetype plugin available too.

Filters > Distorts > Curve brend...

I used this built in feature in Gimp to make this freelance logo:
