tablet pen and cursor problems
I recently got a Lenovo Thinkpad X200 Tablet and was using GIMP on it fine until today, the pen and the cursor are not aligned when using GIMP.

I've tried re-calibrating the screen but the pen works absolutely fine when GIMP is not in use- I can click on another window or the desktop and the pen is suddenly aligned correctly with the screen but as soon as i select an open GIMP related window, the cursor becomes mis-aligned with the pen.

The cursor is not acting like a mouse- when i move it off the screen and try to move it again, it doesnt continue where it was, it still moves like it would normally on a tablet but it is not aligned correctly with my pen- when i move the pen to the bottom of my screen the cursor can only go as far as halfway.

I'm using GIMP 2.6.11, my operating system is Windows Vista. I've been searching for solutions- going into preferences> input configuration> etc and changing the settings there hasn't helped.

RE: tablet pen and cursor problems
I have the exact same problem. Running GIMP 2.8.2 on Vista with a Wacom-powered tablet PC. I've been using GIMP daily for my work and hobbies, and now my stylus is just useless - the cursor is misaligned with my stylus by a good few inches. I have restarted GIMP, rebooted my computer, recalibrated my screen - no result.

To clarify: My stylus still works fine outside the GIMP. My mouse and trackpad still work fine in the GIMP. Only in the GIMP is my stylus malfunctioning, and it first happened this afternoon - I just opened GIMP for about the third time today and it simply wasn't working.

I'll try reinstalling GIMP and come back with my results.

Reading both(LukePm) of your problems & searching other forums, I found that maybe gimp is incompatible with your pen/tablet driver. Since outside of the program, it aligns fine.

First, check in Edit > Preferences > Input Devices,
see if the settings for "Configure Extended Input Devices" is greyed out.

If its not, see under "Extended Input Devices" :
http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-pimping.htm...ut-devices

Second, if that doesn't fix it, search for your bug in the site below, then if you can't find it, file a bug report.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/

Good luck with everything! Smile

[SOLVED]
Thanks for your response iForStyle007. Just to clarify, GIMP was working fine with my tablet for many months, until one day it suddenly stopped working - so it's not a simple compatibility issue.

However, after a bit of digging I found it was a problem with GTK rather than GIMP, and updating my Wacom drivers fixed the problem. It's a happy ending, but I'm still perplexed as to why it would have suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason - I hadn't updated GIMP or anything that could have caused such a change. Oh well, I guess all's well that ends well!

RE: tablet pen and cursor problems
I wonder if that is why my pad has been acting flaky too? It is not a wacom but I will have to look into this GTK thingy... What I mean by look into is, ask my husband. I don't do much behind the screens work. LoL

...and now it's back. As before, there was no warning and no cause. I've upgraded every driver I can get my hands on, and it won't go away. The problem is definitely with GTK, because it's exactly the same in Audacious.

I really hope this isn't going to mean buying a new Tablet PC...

You shouldn't need to buy a new tablet pc. Try to reset your gimp profile, see if that fixes it. has a tutorial on that on this forums found here: http://gimpforums.com/thread-what-is-my-...-i-find-it

A last alternate & more easier is to use gimp for photo edits(in your case) and find an alternate free program(if your short for cash) to use for drawing that is more compatible with either waccom tablet drivers or tablet drawing in general.

You can import bitmaps into gimp, so ms paint would be a nice alternative off the bat. I've heard good reviews for paint net (a super charged version of paint, may work better for tablet drawing.)

Gimp is nice for tablet drawings when it works for it, best for photo editing.
