Suggestions?
I'm not a designer, and I suck at it.
I plan to use freelancer.com to get an image of some sort, created for the middle of the book. So, ignoring the current lack of an image:

Will you offer advice, to make my book cover look better? What would you change?

Thanks!

RE: Suggestions?
I don't thing the gray in "rewards" is a good idea. It make it look faded and blurry. If you want to do something different, use the outline without fill:

RE: Suggestions?
If the text is on a light background, you'll be ok, or you can add a light background to the text.

Here are some ideas, these ideas are almost infinite

1. Because everything looks cooler with racing flame decals!!
1.     2.
2. A nice serene field scene that stretches for miles

3.Water scene
3.     4.
4. A magcial scene to add mystery & interest in the book

RE: Suggestions?
Thanks for the ideas.
OfNuts, thanks for the alternative to the gray text. I think I will change it, at least to remove the gray.

I posted a contest on freelancer for the image in the center, but so far it looks like every design is stolen and I can't use it (lol.)

I have a question: I was told it would be easy to make something like this purple band at the top.
What would I type into youtube, to find a tutorial for such a thing?

@icor
You can actually do it yourself.

1. do the same process you did wit the bottom box "Jerrad Johnson"
2. create squares like the "purple band" and just rotate it
3. make as many as you want and either to make it on the top most layer or after the other
4. save image

There are just color rectangles, rotated and stacked with partial opacity, then flattened all together and cropped to a rectangle. Another way to do it is to use a rectangular brush with low opacity, a color gradient, and Dynamics that associate randomness to angle and color.

RE: Suggestions?
How do you make the canvas into landscape? And does GIMP have a symmetrical tool? just to make sure that it is in the same distance with the two purple band stuff.

Does GIMP have the option to do two things on each side at once? How do you make it snap to the image like smart guides or snap to edge of the object? This is one thing we use a lot in design but we are not sure where is the option in GIMP (for architecture and brochures)

Thx

RE: Suggestions?
See the Flip tool (Flip)

See View>Snap to canvas edges.
