suggestion: pop up dialog "you haven't finished your post"
pretty much all forums I visit have a pop up dialog box saying something like "you haven't finished your post" yada yada yada with the options "leave page" & "stay on page" if you leave before submitting the post... I accidentally clicked on a bookmark in my toolbar and lost what I have typed for posting!!! similar issues happen on other forums too... is GimpForums really need to be "out of date" regarding that aspect???

If you press the "back" button on your browser you are back to your page, and with the text area pre-filled (at least with firefox)....

There's also draft somewhere, you can draft it for later. (if its small)

But it's a little tricky to re-open/ re-edit the draft like e-mail drafts (I always could save them, but never edit them XD)

So yeah, I draft my tutorials 1/3 way sometimes just in case something like that happens.

When I write a long post I do that in a text editor on the side and save to file from time to time. No javascript trickery can protect us from a navigator or OS crash/hang, or against a power cut (if working on a desktop). When done I copy/paste, add the image(s), and off it goes.
