Stuff.
I downloaded 2.8.2 yesterday, or thought I had, and it was only after several hours and many aborted attempts to install it that I realised all that I had downloaded was an updated help file. I am constantly amazed by my ability to screw things upBig Grin
Anyway, I finally got the new version installed and all seems fine. The language preference setting is there this time and Gimp boots up faster than it did with 2.1. On the down side all the plugins that came with the 2.1 version have gone. I had a scout around for the missing plugins but decided the only one I want for the time being is G'Mic, not real sure how to use this one but it looks fascinating.
Still got the same old problem with Colour Management, but It's no big deal to get around.

Got me a copy of the new Gimp magazine the other day. It's pretty cool. A couple of interviews, mostly about photography, and a quick run through on how to create a post apocalyptic street scene, so an interesting half hours read.
The only bad thing - and this could be caused by the way my screen is set up - was that it was hard to read in the recommended two page view. The writing was way too small so I went for single page view which meant I was forever scrolling up and down the page. Bit of a pain really that's all.
Looking forward to issue two.

RE: Stuff.
Can someone help me please, my boyfriend bought me a Bamboo drawing pad for my birthday, I used it gimp just to see what it does, it doesn't work in gimp that well, and I'm not sitting here trying to find the presets on it. I want to revert back to my mouse on my Apple Mac os, This is the huge problem the mouse is not picking up on gimp tools at all, it doesn't draw or do anything I want it to do in gimp. How can I change this, I don't not want my drawing pad to be part of gimp at all, I want to keep well away from gimp.
I would be most grateful if someone can tell me

RE: Stuff.
Sorry to hear about your problems KS. You might be better to put your question in the General thread.

I've been running 2.8.2 for a week now and it 's pretty good. No crashes and everything seems to be working fine. I added more memory to my system - 4 gig now - and that seems to have sorted out the cage transform tool. It's still slow if I use it on a large image, say 4272 by 2848, but if I scale the image down then use the cage it works pretty quick. And then I just scale the image back up and it's job done.
As to Colour Management - see here http://gimpforums.com/thread-bug-fix-for-windows - I've turned that back on and it doesn't appear to be causing any problems now. Not sure if this is down to the extra memory or because I'm now using the latest version of Gimp?

Got a strange phone call yesterday morning from someone who claimed to be from the Windows help desk. They said that my computer was flashing up a warning and that they had phoned to help me fix it. I asked what the warning was for and they said I had picked up a virus on line. I was on my way out so I just cut the guy dead as I knew he was talking crap, but if I'd had more time I would've played the guy along just to see what the scam was all about.
I know no one who would be at this forum would fall for this kind of scam - I guess that if I had listened to the guy from the "Windows" help desk then I would've ended up with a virus on my PC - but I thought it was worth a mention just in case this kind of thing is doing the rounds.

I entered a contest last week and after after having another look at the image I'd sent in I decided there were a few scruffy edges to it. Tidy that up I though... no I didn't, I'd saved the original xcf as a flattened version, all the layers have gone. gurrrrAngry
