Strange keyboard behavior makes Gimp unusable
Something has put my GIMP into "unusable" mode. Does anyone recognize the following symptoms?

Suddenly, some keys on my keyboard (notably digits) will get "stuck" in a mode related to one screen or element, and refuse to act as the numbers they are for the active element. Sorry, a bit abstract - here's an example:

I'm editing an image, save it, try to export it. I want to chance the image name from "image.xcf" to "image-1.jpg." But when I try to type that "1" into the name box, hitting the "1" doesn't produce a "1" - it changes the view magnification of the image behind the dialog box. I just cannot enter the numeral "1" in the name; it's like I'm stuck on the "change view magnification" shortcut that you see on the View menu.)

This is just one example - similar things are happening in virtually every feature of the program, rendering it virtually unusable. (One more example - can't change a brush size except by scrolling to that number.)

Any ideas what's going on? Thank you!

Mavericks - yes, and I'm on Gimp 2.8.3, so maybe that's the problem But (sorry) how do I do that? I went to the Gimp page and it's not obvious to me. Lots of links, and with some of them it's not clear what the version is. There's also a lot of stuff about rebuilding it, which I don't understand. (And will the new version overwrite the old? Or do I have to install the new then uninstall the old?) Thanks!

Thanks. But... hmmm. Something weird going on. I have now downloaded the 2.8.10 file twice, or seemed to, but it "downloads" over 5-6 minutes and then fails to show up in the downloads folder. At first I thought maybe it had automatically upgraded in some way, but when I open Gimp it's still 2.8.3, and the 2.8.10 file is nowhere to be found. Any ideas?

Yikes. I finally downloaded the file (fourth attempt - still no idea what happened to the first three) - and now get an error message saying it can't be opened because it's from an unregistered developer (or something like that). So I went to a different link on the Gimp downloads page (http://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/osx/gi...mg-1.dmg), and that just opens up a folder with at least a dozen files, several of which appear to be related to 2.8.10 but with no info on what's what. Still stuck!

Wait... I found the file I need at http://www.downloadcrew.com/article/2856-gimp... and now I have 2.8.10 installed... and it works! Thank you!
