Special Fonts
In Fireworks I could access special fonts (see attachment). Does Gimp 2.8.6 have fonts like that? Or can I download such fonts?

Thanks,

RE: Special Fonts
As far as I know you can just install fonts like you would install it to the operating system (download...)
When you add a font to your system, it migrates to gimp.

1.
First overlook this page:
(Read this and ESPECIALLY the section at the end "Known Problems")
http://www.gimp.org/unix/fonts.html

2.
Then these instructions on how to install your font per operating system:
http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-using-fonts.html

RE: Special Fonts
Thanks for the input.
Not sure about the terminology. Fireworks had (I only used it during a free trial) something that allowed me to make the letters. I will have to research border and drop shadow on gimp. I am classified as a beginner on this site. That's word inflation.

Again, thanks

RE: Special Fonts
It can be a bit daunting for a newcomer to GIMP but to keep the interest from flagging, there are several presets that you can find in the Gimp menu; File -> Create -> Logos
Something like this.

As you begin to understand how Gimp works, all these can be made from scratch and to the exact way you require. Remember that these are no longer text but are graphic images.

Until then, just have a bit of fun.

RE: Special Fonts
rich2005: thanks, didn't know that.

ofnuts: understood. I came to gimp because the adobe gouge to play plan is just not what I want to lock myself into. Plus it's fun to learn a new program when one no longer has a boss.
