Some designs I have been working on lately
Thanks to ofnuts for the help in improving my GIMP skills first of all. Spent many long hours working on these designs for some competitions on this site.

Anyway this is about as finished as I managed to get so just wanted to share. I'm more hopeful of maybe winning with my infected mushroom entry and so far I am in 39th place so if anyone feels like tossing a vote or two my way I'd be grateful, just want to keep myself in the top 50 as the band will pick the winner and if I can stay in the top 50 I think I have more chance of being considered.

They look good. I like the way you got a drawing feel to the tree and animals even though they were from a photo. That's something I need to learn how to do.

Good luck with the comp.

RE: Some designs I have been working on lately
I think the mist that came down that day lends itself a lot to that effect. It was a great photo opportunity and I have lots more photos from that day I still have to look at properly.

I took a lot of time carefully editing the photos of animals, cutting them out and pasting them onto this background. Then I adjusted the colour balance, saturation, brightness, contrast and transparency and so on to make them blend into the picture. I also blurred a little round the edges sometimes by adding a layer mask. I think had the picture not been so misty I might not have gotten away with it so well with a lot of them.

Anway I don't think I've ever put in as many hours and effort into anything else before and I'm very pleased with the way it turned out myself. I have an idea to maybe do something similar but with fish and sea creatures instead of birds and make it look like a fantasy underwater scape, but I would have to use pictures off the internet so it wouldn't be 100% my own work. All the creatures used in these are from photos I have taken myself, apart from one which was taken by my mum. The monkey, the little stripey squirrel, the spider, the gecko, the lizards, the snake going through the nose and some of the birds are all from photos I took in India >10 years ago. Everything else is more recent.

Cheers :-)
