Simple printing size question
hi,
I want the picture that I am printing to have the exact dimensions as I have on screen (22.6 cm by 22.6 cm). Currently the picture is zoomed in to this size.

Any help much appreciated

edit: perhaps this is relevant, when i clicked on the set image canvas size, it says the canvas size is 612 by 612 pixels

RE: Simple printing size question
First, save a copy of the document as a backup (so you have the original size)

Then
First try
Image > Image size...
- Click the link icon & change the units to cm or inches

Then if it that doesn't work, try:

Image > Print size... (http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-image-print-size.html)
(this size will be the size of your print, probably what your looking for)

*Canvas size will only change the document size, not the image size. Its like putting something small into a big suitcase.

RE: Simple printing size question
This worked the first time, but on a new image I cannot get it to work for some reason

The new image is 36 cm by 54 cm on screen

What I did to try to print this was Image>Canvas Size> Width 36 cm, height 54 cm>Resize

that didn't work, the image was the same

Similarly, I tried Image> Print Size> 36 cm by 54 cm>Ok

that also didn't work

I think I might be making a simple error, because last time it worked perfect

Any help appreciated

edit: I'm also printing on A3 paper, and I realize those dimensions are larger, but it doesn't matter to me, I just need some facial features to be enlarged [as they appear zoomed in on screen]

2nd edit: I print screened, then cropped the area I wanted, opened up the picture [just eyes this time] in gimp again. This time the picture fit inside A4, so I printed in A4 and it worked this time...So it seems to be a problem with the picture too big for A3..

*Canvas size only makes the space around the image bigger, not the actual image

-You want Image > Image scale...

Can you measure the size of the image after printed on paper?
Put this above the size of your image on the computer/in gimp in your next reply then maybe someone can assist you further/have a better idea, as I have no clue beyond my print size method.

Exampe:

After printing: ##cm / inches width x ## cm / inches height
in gimp(Print Size...): ##cm / inches width x ## cm / inches height

I suspect the problem is in picking the wrong scale option, but still include the two above details in your reply, thanks Smile
