Setting .jpg quality on the Web Slice function
Hi,

I'm referring to this function:

http://docs.gimp.org/en/python-fu-slice.html

The issue I am running into is exporting to .jpg files, I have no control over the quality and have been experiencing jpg degradation.

I used to use Photoshop and used the slice tool and then export to web, which has a massive array of options, which enables to me to check the quality of the output file before slicing.

Could anyone enlighten me as to whether:
  • there are any available quality settings for exporting jpg slices in this way
  • there may be a different but improved function (I am slicing images for use in HTML emails which are table based, so imagemaps won't work unfortunately)
  • maybe I am going about this all the wrong way. Should I be exporting to a lossless format, and then resaving each individual slice perhaps with irfanview which has fairly robust quality options? I don't know - any input appreciated.

Unfortunately I don't have photoshop available anymore.

I reckon there's a lot of value in trying to bring the slice function up to the same standard as photoshop's (including a slice tool rather than using guides) but obviously that's a longer term goal.
