Separate+ plugin doesn't show
Hi, everyone!

This is my first question on the forum. I'd like to get into graphic design
as a hobby. At the moment though, I'm only interested in using an already
existing design for a business card as a template for my own (imaginary) business.

I've found this site with several free templates, but they are all in CMYK profile.
Apparently, Gimp 2.8 doesn't support CMYK "out of the box" and I need a plugin
called separate+.

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I've installed the three exe files into
C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins and Gimp didn't show the option
separate (under 'image') at all. Upon googling I've found that (although I got
no error for a missing dll; the option doesn't show entirely) I need a missing
dll to be installed into C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\bin called libtiff-3.dll .

I think the first one I've downloaded was 32bit so I've looked elsewhere for a 64bit
compatible dll, but still the plugin/option doesn't show on Gimp.

What am I missing here?

Thanks,
Nathan.

From the ..\GIMP 2\.. path it looks like you are on Gimp 2.8.x, is that correct?
AFAIK you have it the wrong way round, there should already be a libtiff-3.dll
like in this screen shot, this is a 32 bit VM (no 64 bit available) & a new Gimp install
http://i.imgur.com/5z8ma.jpg

The separate+ plugin - should be ver 0.5.8 - was written for gimp 2.6 and the file names have changed a bit with Gimp 2.8

The plugin looks for libtiff3.dll not libtiff-3.dll. If you have copied a stray libtiff-3.dll to ..\GIMP 2\bin from some place else either restore the original or you might have to reinstall Gimp.

This is what I know works in a 32 bit machine, can't guarantee it works in a 64 bit machine.
Copy, repeat copy, libtiff-3.dll to your local plug-ins folder .gimp-2.8\plug-ins and rename it to libtiff3.dll ie it is there with the other 3 files separate.exe, separate_import.exe & icc_colorspace.exe
Since separate+ is a 32 bit plugin - the zip did have a 32 bit folder correct? - it might not work with a 64 bit libtiff3.dll. As a last resort this is the 32 bit that I used. Unzip and put in your local plug-ins folder.
https://rapidshare.com/files/1940338368/libtiff3.zip

If it works there will be a menu entry at the bottom of the image menu and import is in file -> create. (takes a cmyk tiff image)

RE: Separate+ plugin doesn't show
Hi, rich2005. Thanks for your reply.

I've got in my Gimp folder both libtiff-3.dll and libtiff3.dll. They are located inside
..\bin\ folder. The three plugins are inside the ..\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins folder.

I've tried doing what you said, copying the exes and the dll to the bin folder,
but that didn't do anything. The plugin does not show under Image in the menu.

However, I do have the import option under file-> create but that's not
what I need.

Oh, I did not say that. libtiff-3.dll (the original one from your gimp installation) should be in ...\bin folder.
The 3 separate+ .exe files + libtiff3.dll should be in .gimp-2.8\plugins.

but beginning to look as if it is not going to work in 64 bit.

other options
A 32 bit gimp 2.6.12 will co-exist with gimp 2.8 and the separate+ plugin should work OOTB. http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/old.html

Imagemagick will convert CMYK <-> RGB but is commandline

CMYKtool (I use this in linux) RGB -> CMYK
http://www.blackfiveimaging.co.uk/index....05CMYKTool

Online conversion http://www.rgb2cmyk.org/ & http://www.cmyk2rgb.com/
I once checked these out and I think they use imagemagick, the conversions were identical. Worth looking at http://www.rgb2cmyk.org/about.html and their advice on profiles and color.

RE: Separate+ plugin doesn't show
had similiar problem.
my solution:
1. if You have libtiff3.dll in "C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\bin" folder, delete it (or move somewhere, where gimp wouldn't look for it - as backup).
2. download rich2005s libtiff3.dll https://rapidshare.com/files/1940338368/libtiff3.zip .
3. put 3 .exe files and libtiff3.dll in "C:\users\<your_user>\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins" folder.

works with my Windows 7 64bit and gimp 2.8.0

Rich2005 - Thank you, thank you - thank you. I was going crazy trying to get Seperate+ to work to convert images to CYMK. The site you recomended works great http://www.rgb2cmyk.org/ Thank you so much
