Seems like I can't start the script-fu server (2.6.12 on WinXP)
Hi,

I'm using Gimp 2.6.12 on Win XP and trying to start the script-fu server by clicking the "start server" button in the script-fu server options dialog. I don't get any indication that the server starts. The log file is not created. I can't connect to the socket. Trying to start GIMP from the command line with the server doesn't help either. Am I doing anything wrong?

TIA

The first thing you get in Linu when you start the server is a dialog asking for a port number and a log file. Does it get that far? If so, (still in Linux, but I believe Windows works the same) the Gimp process will have two script-fu.exe children, one to run the "local" script-fus and one to run the remote ones. They should both show in the process manager. Listing you TCP/IP ports should show the port you entered as "listening". You can also look for message in the log you specified...

Thanks for your quick reply!
I get the dialog, click the "start server" button and nothing happens. I used 2 TCP monitoring tools - the Windows version of Netstat and TCPView - and they seem to show nothing happens. As for the processes - BEFORE I click "filters->Script-Fu->Start Server..." and the dialog appears, I see ONE script-fu.exe process in the process list. AFTER I click "filters->Script-Fu->Start Server..." but BEFORE I click the "Start Server" button, there are TWO script-fu.exe processes, but as soon as I click the button, the 2nd process disappears. As for the log file, it is never created. Any ideas?

TIA

Start Gimp with gimp-console... maybe it will catch and display some output from the dying script-fu.

It is also possible that the script-fu is seen as malware by some protection software (suspicious process attempting to open a port...) and killed (or not allowed to open the port).

Thanks again,
Well, it seems that the parameters I enter in the dialog are completely ignored! I can enter invalid parameters such as a port number that contains an alphabetic character, or a log file path that has an invalid drive letter, and clicking OK gives no error message at all. But the problem is not in the dialog itself, because I also fail to start the server non-interactively, both from the windows command line (see below) and from the script-fu console, where I tried both interactive and non-interactive (1st parameter of plug-in-script-fu-server).

When I entered in the windows command line:
gimp-console-2.6.exe -i -b "(plug-in-script-fu-server 1 10008 \"mylog\")" -c --verbose
I got:
Starting extension: 'extension-script-fu'
No batch interpreter specified, using the default 'plug-in-script-fu-eval'.
batch command executed successfully

I turned off AVG anti-virus resident shield and the windows firewall, but it didn't help.

TIA
Ideas?
