Scale without blended edges
hello, just want to scale an image. I do File/Tools/Transform Tools/Scale. Then I adjust the numbers to my desire. If I reduce the size, there is blending that takes place amongst pixel colors.

Looks good except that the edges of the image are also being blended. Blended with what? The edge? I don't get it.

How do I scale an image, but leave the edges alone?

Thanks.

Many years a Paint Shop Pro user. I love linux so I'm trying to love gimp.

I am assuming you are running into a problem illustrated here?

1. Turn off the Anti-aliasing from the tool box when you use the selection tool.
2. If your edges have no background (are transparent), then the edge can't blend with the scale. Well, actually it could blend with transparent background so it really won't show.
3. Also take a look at the type of scaling you use.
GIMP allow for cubic interpolation, linear, Lanczos, and none.

I'm talking about the left and top edge/border of the image rectangle itself, not anything within the image. I'll try what you recommend and get back to you.

I clicked on File/Windows/Toolbox and nothing changed. Where is the toolbox? I don't see the word Anti-aliasing anywhere on the screen.

Not complaining, just telling you what I see. I know we can get this going.

I know you are not complaining. [Image: hellokittyemoticonlooki.gif]

The Gimp opens a long window on the leftside called the Toolbox. When you have the Selection Tool in use there is a check box. Here is what this should look like.

You will notice the AA box is checked and I have the Ellipse Tool selected. It will gray out when you have the rectangle selected and AA shouldn't effect a straight edge image in that way. If that doesn't work for you try posting an example of what you are seeing on your end for us to study.

When I first used the GIMP I had trouble with the fact that 3 windows popped open. I remember how complex everything looked and I thought I would never be able to soak it all in my head. Who knows one of these days I might get there.
