scale tool - keep aspect make default
is it possible to make the 'keep aspect' option in the scale tool checked by default? it is unchecked every time Gimp starts up and I tend to make the mistake and oddly scale a floating layer because the aspect isn't staying the same. is there any way to make the 'keep aspect' option on by default so when I start up Gimp I don't have to constantly scale it wrong or having to always need to lock the proportions?

RE: scale tool - keep aspect make default
I don't know about 2.8 but this works in 2.6;

Open any image, Shift+T to select the Scale Tool, Left Click the image.

In the Scale dialog box, Click the chain to link the aspect.

Return to the image without closing the Scale dialog box.

Edit --> Preferences --> Tool Options --> Save Tool Options Now

Close out, when you restart the tool will be just as you left it.

So before using it make sure these are also like you want to see them when starting Gimp.

DON'T LIE! I SAVED tool options and it DID NOT save the keep aspect!! DO NOT LIE about what gimp does because THAT DOES NOT SAVE the keep aspect!

Stop shouting and no one is lying to you.

It does work as Ofnuts describes.

Check list.
1. Did you tick aspect ratio in the tool options as well as setting the aspect ratio.?
2. Did you do this for every tool you want fixing?
You have to do this for square / elliptical / crop ...etc
They can be different values eg. square select can be 1:2 elliptical could be 1:3

Once all that is done, then in preferences
3. Did you un-tick "Save options on exit"?
4. Did you click on "Save Tool Options Now"
5. Are you sure you did all this?

The inset in the screenshot shows one of the files in your User ./gimp-2.8/tool-options folder.
The values you set are held there for each tool, rectangular select tool is shown with the fixed 1:2 ratio.

Now I have to go back and reset my Gimp to the way I want it Smile
