Running GIMP on 1024x600 resolution
Hey Guys.

I have a netbook Acer AspireOne D255e, which max resolution is 1024x600. When I try to run GIMP, it's impossible to use it, because all the tools disappear on the window.

Is there the possibility to resize the GIMP window to fit on my screen?

Thank you all.

Btw, are you running 2.6 or 2.8? If 2.8 is Gimp in single-window mode?
I'm using the 2.8, and I tried single window (without it was impossible to use), but icons still big. When I put full screen, I have this (on attachment).

Is this the better screen that I can have?

Thanks Lot

RE: Running GIMP on 1024x600 resolution
Probably a lost cause.

I have a A110 netbook, 1GB mem, 16GB SSD, running an old Bohdi linux based on ubuntu 10.04 (works very well)

As you found Gimp 2.6.x, no good, the menus run off the display.

I did try a 'portable' Gimp 2.8 which was very broken but if everything had worked would have been better.

My suggestion, if you can install Gimp 2.8, have a look at the preferences menu & "small icons"

On the other hand, the graphics chip is not that wonderful and it is a netbook, so maybe some other less ambitious graphics app. would be better.

Its the 600 pix depth that is the killer, I use my A110 every day, it is a wonderful little machine but not so much for graphics.

On the positive side, what does work
Inkscape is good
MyPaint is good

a couple of java apps.

In that case, on my computer, Mypaint doesn't works!

That is a shame, using Windows maybe?

This is a screenshot of my Acer A110 http://i.imgur.com/mffOX.jpg shows
MyPaint, good fun even if you are not a great artist. The open raster format saves layers which is useful.
Java ImageEditor, for a small application it has some useful filters. Unfortunately while it will save to PSD the result is flattened. Worth a try.
