Star Replicating and Fading Out a Texture
I trying to edit the linked image to be the background of a new site I'm creating. I need to make the image longer by copying the soil teture from the bottom of the image and fading it into black. How would I go about doing this? Thank you!

RE: Replicating and Fading Out a Texture
- load picture
- "Image/Canvas size" to new size
- select a rectangle of reasonably uniform ground (avoid stones, etc...) in existing picture
- copy/paste to new layer
- Filter/Map/Make seamless
- Copy back that new layer (now seamless) to clipboard
- create a new layer, drag it below original image
- bucket fill with pattern: select the first pattern (clipboard) which should be your ground extract
- the output is seamless but a regular pattern shows up. use Filters/Distorts/Ripple to randomize it a bit (other distortion methods are possible)
- the transition from your original image to the fake ground is likely still visible. select the original image layer, start the eraser, reduce opacity to 30%, and erase along the line (you can also use a layer mask for a more progressive blend)
- add new layer above everything, create gradient from black (at the bottom) to white (where
you want the picture to keep the original luminosity.
- try varoius layer modes on that: multiply, overlay, burn, soft light. You can also adjust the gradient using the levels tool (in my image, I used Multiply mode, and in levels I dragged the middle hand to the right (0.50))
