Removing background on logo
I'm a total newbie so I don't even know if what I want to do is possible or even the proper vocabulary to explain it. My apologies.

I received delivery of a company logo in multiple file formats. I'm trying to get the logo added on various sites across the web. However, I can't figure out how to get the logo to stand on it's own without a background.

We have the following formats: pdf rar ai png jpg tiff bmp and eps

The background is white and I just want that removed so the logo and company name stand on their own. I have attached an example. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks!!

Here are 3 tutorials that show how to replace one colour with another. In your case, you will replace the white with transparent.

Option 1
Go to any post by ofnuts. In his signature you will find a link to Background Removal. It takes you here:

Option 2

Step 4 shows the logo with a transparent background. Stop there.

RE: Removing background on logo
It is always worth giving Inkscape a try when the document is a PDF.

Open in Inkscape. Select the graphic and text objects. Export as a png and I would increase the dpi to a document value say 300.

Opens in Gimp, resize the canvas back to whatever the pdf was A4 or letter or ...

caveat, does not always work...Smile

RE: Removing background on logo
You may already know this.. but once you get the background hacked out you will have to use a graphic format that supports transparency for the web stuff.. thats png or transparent gif.. do png if you can. jpg does not support transparency. You might end up having to modify your web pages if the file name is different.

There is one other trick to that if you have a jillion web pages with jpg logos all the same background color and you need to update the logo.. you can sample the background color or make a snapshot of it and then once you strip the white out of the new one replace it with that background color or snap. Its not as nice as the transparent png bit.. but it does work... especially if you dont want to have to go code hunting to update the file type.

Good Luck Smile
