Removing background color doesn't work!
I followed the steps according to this to change the blue background color in this picture to pure white and it just breaks apart.
Does anyone know how to do that?

RE: Removing background color doesn't work!
Because the tutorial you followed assumes the background i fairly uniform, which isn't true in your picture. See http://gimpforums.com/thread-tutorials-a...-for-noobs

On the other hand, the intelligent scissors work very well on it:

About 2 minutes of work. Cropped because as a PNG the full image is 1.2M, above the size limit.

RE: Removing background color doesn't work!
Here's my try at it, the final result is scaled down to fit on my 17" screen, but you will get a similar effect all on the same layer using a mask (good for simple pictures).

This little gif animation is a quick tutorial on how I did it (all steps).

1. Duplicate image layer
2. Threshold (try to get a solid black / white threshold)

*NOTE: I ran into a problem with the bottom half of the green circle,
- So you need to reduce layer opacity & carefully paint the bottom curve white.

3. Fuzzyselect fuzzy select(wand) the black part (background)

4. Delete or hide(eye) the duplicated layer & select original image layer in layers window.

5. Colors > Levels...
- "Output Levels" (pull black triangle to right) (see gif) click ok
6 Select > None.

Even better results using a path:

To reproduce, unzip the attached.zip, open the Paths list, right-click menu, and import the SVG file as a new path.
