Red=Grey?
So I've been working on this picture, but there's just one thing that just doesn't work.

I want to make this black bat red. So I select it with fuzzy select.

I choose my desired shade of red and select the bucket tool, all is going according to plan.

I click on the selected bat with my red bucket and...

What?
This isn't just happening with red, with yellow it becomes white and with green it becomes light grey. What am I missing here so I can make the bat the actual color I'm selecting?
