Raw Processing in the Gimp 2.6.8
I am using the Gimp Mac 2.6.8 (seems to work best with Mac Tiger 10.4.11). I have an Olympus E1 DSLR, want to be able to process, manipulate Raw files from the camera in the Gimp. Am I able to accomplish this? If so, is there a plugin I can install in the Gimp? Although I have been using other Gimp functionality, I am completely new to working with Raw files. I am not much of a techie so can someone explain, step by step, in "non-jargon" terms how I can accomplish this? On my own I got the "ufraw-0.18.tar.gz" file from Sourceforge, am I on the right track? Many thanks, Ken.

With ufraw you are on the right track, but what you have is the source code and you'll have to learn to compile it, which may be a bot above your current expertise. Find a pre-packaged version of UFRaw... (but I cannot tell where you'll find one for the mac)

If you go to the UFRaw homepage on SourceForge, then click on "Download & Install" in the menu on the left side, then click on "Mac" (next to the big Apple logo) it'll take you to a list of links to their various Mac builds.

RE: Raw Processing in the Gimp 2.6.8
Thanks ofnuts, Virago. Since I wrote this, Olympus has written to me, in reply to my inquiry about their Studio 2.2.3 software, which used to carry a hefty pricetag (I think $100.-$150.) has Raw processing functionality in it specifically for Olympus DSLR cameras like my E1. Turns out Olympus is no longer continuing to sell or support it but are now giving it away for free with the serial key. So I think I might use the specific Raw function of Studio 2.2.3 + continue to use the Gimp, as I have it, for all other photo manipulation. Also the Studio 2.2.3 software has extensive photo cataloging functionality, almost like Picasa, so the combination of Studio + the Gimp ought to take care of most of my requirements. I have gotten the programs from Sourceforge, as you suggest, might just try them when I get a chance. This Olympus gift is a genuine bonus. Thanks again guys, Ken.
