Question about selection tools!
I know about the Ellipse select tool where i can select an area in the shape of a circle. But is there a way to select the area only out side of the circle? In other words... can i select an area (preferably a circle) in order to have it protected so i can work around it?
Thank you! Smile

Hi GuyInTheSky

Once you have your circular selection, Select->Invert.
Does that achieve what you desire?

RE: Question about selection tools!
Hi GuyInTheSky, welcome to the forums ^^ !

Another thing you can do is isolate the circle on its own layer and make whatever you're editing a background layer underneath it. That way as long as your selected on the background layer & circle layer is underneath, it will remain intact until your done.
You can then drag the circle layer above.
You can have the circle on top, just make sure you're selected on the background layer when you draw/do stuff.

This is more easier on your computer ram if its a long and or big project because the computer doesn't have to keep a selection active for that long. You might be ok with a current computer.

1
First select your circle with the ellipse tool.
2
Copy & "Edit > Paste As... > New Layer"
3
cancel any selections "Select > None" , then create a new layer "Type: White, or a solid color(FG or BG color)
4
Put the circle under the new layer if you wish
