Question about Gimp Layers
Hello! I am obviously new to Gimp, and already having an issue! Huh In gimp I have imported an image. I then duplicate the image four times (I am trying to make four different crops of the same image). But every time I crop one corner of the image, it automatically crops ALL OF THE OTHER DUPLICATES TOO!!!! I have tried just importing the same image four times as individual layers, but that doesn't work either! Why does one layer affect all of them?!

RE: Question about Gimp Layers
Not too sure what you want to do but my guess.

Give the image an alpha channel before duplicating. Layers -> Transparency -> Add alpha channel
For each layer instead of cropping use the rectangular select tool, now invert the selection, then cut (Edit -> Cut or ctrl-x)
You have to do this for each layer, very tedious but gets there eventually.

If you want to shrink a layer to just the selected part use Layer -> Autocrop

looks like this, left is the original, right are the 'cropped' layers.

RE: Question about Gimp Layers
If you want to keep your layers in place, another good way to individually crop your layers:

Layer > Layer Boundary Size...

Only thing is, you might have to toggle the eye on/off to see which layer is cropped. (not too hard)

Also, try the "Current layer only" checkbox on the Crop tool options. I haven't tried it yet but it might be the same as "Layer Boundary size" Smile cheers!
