Problem: I can only work on one of the five layers
Hello,

I created a email icon:

layer 5 stamp text
layer 4 rectangle (stamp)
layer 3 text
layer 2 rectangle (envelope)
layer 1 background

When I tried to work on the background layer, I realized I couldn't paint/draw on any of the layers except layer 4, but changes only appear inside the stamp's rectangular area.

I haven't don't anything clever here, I simply made a layer, drew a simple shape, stroked path, and added a new layer until I was done.

How do I undo this layer fixation?

I would also drag the layer that you want to work on to the top, as you can easily accidentally be drawing on/erasing on another layer and not see it. You can rearrange the layers when your done.

Like the above post mentioned though, make sure you click on the layer you want to work on.

If its still not drawing, make sure you don't have anything selected
(Select > None) Shift + Ctrl + A

RE: Problem: I can only work on one of the five layers
I tried both of your suggestions before posting, but the stamp layer is still the focus:

The stamp rectangle is acting like a mask, no matter which layer I select, even if i move that layer to the top of the stack.

I can only see changes inside the stamp's rectangle area, but I haven't created a mask.

How do I undo this effect.
