Printing Colors Accurately
Running Gimp on Ubuntu 12.04 and an Epson 1400. Printing is pretty straight forward, but monitor and output arn't close. I ran Adobe before on Windows and amazingly good matching results.

Am I stuck with trial and error to make a good print or is there some magic I'm not aware of...

Thanks,

Tony

RE: Printing Colors Accurately
Magic is known as "Color management". Requires monitor calibration, printer+paper+ink calibration, color profiles, and clicking on the right options in Edit/Preferences.

RE: Printing Colors Accurately
My bet is on a Windows machine your monitor's profile is close to a standard calibrated configuration...but when installing Ubuntu on a previous Windows machine....or building your own Linux box is far more likely to need calibration to match an ICC profile that can be referenced in the color management tab of GIMP.
