Printing an image created in Gimp
Hi!

So I've created my business card using gimp a few times. I usually us Vista Print to print it. The picture resolution is at 300 but when I get the printed image it has a little blur around the wording (that's the best way I can describe it). It's not a clear print. What do I need to do to have a more clear image to print? When I see the image on my computer it's crystal clear... I just wish it would print that way. Help!

Thanks!
Cris

RE: Printing an image created in Gimp
It could just be the printing process, without seeing the extent of the effect, difficult to say.
You will normally get some anti-aliasing which introduces a bit of semi-transparency along the edges, but this is necessary.
Screenshot: Times New Roman, 50 pix. Top is with anti-aliasing, middle without, and bottom is repeated saving as a jpeg to get some artefacts. You would have to try really hard to make a bad image by resaving as a jpeg.

A bit of digging at the uk vistaprint site comes up with some recommendations.

They can supply a template. PS, 1039x685 pix @ 300 dpi, CMYK so not openable in Gimp without some conversion first.

Their recommendations:
Use vector art.
convert text to curves

They can accept all sorts of image formats, jpeg, png, tiff but top of the list is PDF, .ai and .psd (CS3)

I would say try and re-work your card design using Inkscape. Logos you might be able to convert to vector without much problem. Text can go to paths when you save as a PDF. Inkscape has more PDF options than Gimp. Big problem is still CMYK, same as GIMP, Inkscape uses RGB. Never had to use Vistaprint, so it is try-and-see.

Thank you for your response! I will try some of the stuff you suggested. I'm not very savvy when it comes to editing software so we'll see how it goes! Smile Thank you!!
