Precise pasting
Basically, I want to cut the right half of one image and paste it in exactly the same position on a second image.

Iv'e found that by cropping I can get a very precise cut but I want to know if there is a way to paste it or move it once pasted to exactly the right half of the image I am pasting it into.

I can get close by eye, but just wonder if there is a more accurate way.

Thanks

When you paste the pasted image goes into a temporary layer called "Floating selection". You can move it around like any other layer. When done use "Layer/Anchor" to merge it down on the layer that was active when you pasted.

You can also transform this temporary layer into a permanent one using Layer/New layer (new layer will automatically pickup it's contents and position) (usually a better idea than "anchor")

@ jimson
Maybe look at using guides.

Set guides in the Image menu -> guides -> new guide by percent or position horizontal/vertical.
Next make sure that View menu -> snap to guides is on.

Then it depends on the images. Both the same size, maybe open as layers and select/copy/paste between layers. The guide(s) will keep you in the correct place.

Different size images, much the same, set up guides in the target image, paste and snap to the guides.

Some screenshots of that. http://www.imageno.com/sfgk7bb4yp6fpic.html

If you have python available, then there is a plugin that pastes to a specific location.
