Possible bug? Layer boundaries not showing!
Hey everyone,

Just a quick issue, I loaded up GIMP today to find that the yellow dashed layer boundaries aren't showing within any of my drawings. The 'Show Layer Boundary' option in the 'View' menu is selected - I have even tried un-selecting, and re-selecting it again, but still does not show.

I really don't want to reinstall GIMP because I will lose my custom window configurations.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brendon

RE: Possible bug? Layer boundaries not showing!
Reinstalling Gimp won't make you lose your windows configurations, because un-installing-re-installing doesn't do anything with your Gimp profile (*). However in this case I doubt reinstalling will fix the problem, which is likely in your profile.

So edit the "gimprc" file in your Gimp profile and see if you have something like:

Code:
(default-view
    (show-menubar yes)
    (show-rulers yes)
    (show-scrollbars yes)
    (show-statusbar yes)
    (show-selection yes)
    (show-layer-boundary no)
    (show-guides yes)
    (show-grid no)
    (show-sample-points yes)
    (padding-mode default)
    (padding-color (color-rgb 1.000000 1.000000 1.000000)))
... and change "(show-layer-boundary no)" to "(show-layer-boundary yes)"

if you are using all default options, you won't have these lines in your profile.

(*) Many people try to fix problems with the Gimp profile by reinstalling, and of course this doesn't work. However Config files in the Gimp profile are plain text files and can be edited.

RE: Possible bug? Layer boundaries not showing!
ofnuts,

Within the 'gimprc' file, 'show-layer-boundary' was already set to 'yes'. I was using GIMP 2.6.7 and found that installing the latest 2.6.11 seemed to have fixed the issue. I should have thought and tried that first.

Thanks for the help!
