.png thumbnail image
● Why is it that only some thumbnail images show the actual image and the others only have the same default image. .png or static .gif or any of them.
File > Open...

● How can I get ALL to show their actual thumbnail image so I don't have to click through them to see in Preview RightSidePanel?

● And one time I got a popup that said thumbnail image was Denied.

Thankyou

RE: .png thumbnail image
If your using windows, it could be the complexity of the image, for the "123" its a very basic vector-like image so its displayed, In Gimps file manager.

But you don't really need it as the right-hand preview is better. If it has a loading loop and wont preview, try clicking it a few times until it loads. (I had a previous problem with that)

That's pretty cool that you can even get a custom image on those icons (In Gimps file manager)

Or you could match your files with windows file explorer:
I only see the default icon if its set to small, so make it bigger
In Windows explorer
Try right-clicking on the white space in the folder your pictures reside in, then navigate to:
View > Medium icons
(or set it to larger & it will refresh all the icons in that folder)

RE: .png thumbnail image
Thanks iForStyle007 but nothing works.
I just updated to 2.8.10 and it is even worse with many other problems.
The thumbnails all have the default appearance and nothing will change that...
making it difficult to find the exact image I am looking for so that I must click through them all to view in rightside panel.

RE: .png thumbnail image
You haven't said which operating system you are using - this is sometimes important in getting relevant help.

I have just checked and I'm seeing the same thing on GIMP 2.8.2 on Windows 7, but as I never use the GIMP file explorer, other than running scripts, it's not proved to be a problem for me.

Using the windows file explorer has much more control over icon sizes and sorting, so I just drag and drop from there into GIMP.

It does look like there is a difference in the files that get a thumbnail in the GIMP file explorer and those that don't. I have attached two files for someone with better tools to analyse what the difference is.

cross.png gets a thumbnail, cross1.png doesn't
And of course when I attach them here and then try downloading them- both don't get a thumbnail Huh AND the downloaded files are binary identical to those I attached - so there's no logic to it that I can see.

RE: .png thumbnail image
Barbie,

Please try to turn on your thumbnail preview in file explorer via the task pane(see below video)
also, the way I said earlier was right-clicking a blank spot on the right-hand side(where all the files are) But the below method may work if you did try the white space way.
