Plugins
I have installed Gimp three days ago now and have, ever since, been trying to download and install the exposure blend plugin into windows 7. I have not yet met with success. I did manage to get a download but couldn't find a way to open it. Very frustrating for a "newbe". Can anyone help?

Hi claurion,

Yes Gimp can be frustrating when you are new and learning.
I did not have this script installed so I had a hunt around and found it here with the version 1.3c being the latest of the two scripts found there.

I downloaded it and put in the usual spot under the scripts folder in my Gimp user profile.

I refreshed the scripts and noticed that it didn't successfully parse. Windows->Dockable Dialogs->Error Console

It has some extra code written and the end of the script that is missing lines to make it syntactically correct.

Once I removed those extra lines, it installed under the Filters menu Filters->Exposure Blend.

Not sure if it works properly but I am sure you will report back if it doesn't.

You will need to open the script in a decent Editor (Notepad++ is free and a good choice).
Then move to the end of the script and comment out (add a ';' to the beginning of each line) lines 614 through 626.
(You can highlight the whole block of code and press CTRL-K to make it quicker)

Below are the lines of script you will need to find, shown after I have already commented them out.
Code:
; (let* ((layer (car (gimp-image-get-active-layer 1)))
; (mask (if (not (= layer -1)) (car (gimp-layer-get-mask layer))))
       ; (img-channels (gimp-image-get-channels 1))
       ; (num-channels (car img-channels))
       ; (channels (cadr img-channels))
       ; (cnt 0)
       ; (channel
; (let loop ((list (vector->list channels)))
      ; (if (null? list) '()
; (if (= (car (gimp-drawable-get-visible (car list))) TRUE)
          ; (car list)
          ; (loop (cdr list)))))))
  ; (null? channel))
